From the Creation of the world through the fall of the Persian empire at the hands of Alexander the Great in 331 BC, The Story of the Ancient World retells as an engaging narrative the history of mankind's beginning, the rise of the nations, and the story of the great ancient civilizations of the Sumerians, the Hebrews, the Egyptians, the Phoenicians, the Assyrians, the Babylonians, and the Persians. 3 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 53 out of 5 I love this book! But my first grader...notsomuch, 11.1.2011
Reviewer: Kathy (Spring Hill, TN)

As a mom who is newly reborn in Christ, I am still learning the Bible. This book really ties several books of Scripture together in a readable, intelligent format. (I didn't realize that Nimrod was the father of paganism and wow, how his presence is seen all over the world now!) HOWEVER, this book came as a part of our first grade curriculum package. We really tried to make this fun and enjoyable and even though my son is bright, he could not comprehend this book. I could barely conjure up a narration even with a lot of prompting. After 2 months of trying, we finally decided to move on. BUT...I will keep it for future reference when he's just a bit older, maybe 3rd or 4th grade, when he is better able to understand. I think at age 6, perhaps this book talks too far over his head. I would rate this book 5 stars but my son, only 1 star. So, I will call a happy medium and say 3 stars.
