The LBC Guide to Astronomy is a 48-page study guide. Each lesson has an explanatory narrative, notebook work, an activity, and a project, followed by a range of related work in such areas as spelling and dictation. Instruction is based on a 36-week schedule with four eight-week terms. The ninth week of each term is a “flex” week, which permits the teaching parent to complete unfinished work, assess learning through end-of-term narration questions, and take field trips if desired. |

The LBC Guide to the Middle Ages covers a thousand-year period in which the Western world transitioned from monarchies with absolute rule to nation states with early forms of self-government. By the dawn of the European Renaissance (1550), the achievements in science, medicine, literature, and the arts were astounding. This guide explores the medieval world from the inside out, through the lives and times of the people. Each lesson comes to life with biographies, historical fiction, and well-written histories. Each lesson’s activities relate to medieval life, and sample narration and discussion questions guide the teaching parent. |

The LBC Guide to Michigan History Through Literature builds an understanding of Michigan history era by era through the lives of the people who lived it. The study guide recommends three kinds of literature: biographies, non-fiction, and historical fiction. It is important to have a balance of all three in order to keep interest high and history accurate. In addition, Living Books Curriculum has gathered a number of free booklets that the State of Michigan provides, including Introducing Michigan’s Past and Getting to Know Michigan. These documents are invaluable guides throughout the study of Michigan history.
